O n Sunday, February 21, 2016 Montrose turns 103 years old! It was on Washington’s Birthday in 1913 that the subdivision of present day Montrose began. Developers Holmes and Walton auctioned off 300 acres of land at a catered barbecue at the approximate corner of what is today Verdugo Blvd. and Clifton Place near the site of the local Mobil Station.
Celebrate with us as we bring you alfresco dining with an authentic Rancho-style Barbecue accompanied by beer and sangria available presented by Zeke’s Smokehouse, live music including for the first time the Mariachi Trio Capri, history exhibits from the CV Historical Society, Friends of Rockhaven and the Montrose Public Library, a “First Responders” section featuring local S.W.A.T. teams, Glendale Fire Department, Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station and Search & Rescue, and of course our Sunday Harvest Market and Marketplace in the 2200 & 2300 blocks with an greatly expanded Kids’ Zone.
Gather around the Stage in front of Billy’s Board Shop at 2227 Honolulu Avenue to enjoy performances by the Prom Plus kids and Revolution Dance Center. A history walk hosted by Robert Newcombe will offer a walking tour filled with wonderful insights into the Montrose of bygone days.
At 2pm, join us at the Stage as we honor some of the folks in our community who have helped make Montrose what it is today. Mayor Zareh Sinanyan will be there to kick-off the ceremonies!
